An alternative to Hudl for an amateur club
Hudl is one of the big names in sports video, mainly in the United States, and its name always comes up when an amateur club here talks about video analysis. Here is what its official pages say, what a volunteer coach needs day to day, and how to get it with the team's phones.
Hudl's prices and descriptions below come from its official pages, checked on 9 October 2026, with the link each time. They may have changed since: check before deciding.
What an amateur club needs
In an amateur club, the coach is often a volunteer, alone on the bench, with two training sessions a week and a match at the weekend. What a coach in that position wants comes down to a few things:
- Filming without spending the evening on it, and without buying equipment.
- Quickly finding the few actions that matter.
- Showing them to the players concerned, on their phones.
- Paying a clear price, in their own currency, sized for a club budget.
A concrete example: on Saturday, the team concedes two goals on counter-attacks, because the full-back goes forward at the same time as the defensive midfielder. On Tuesday, the coach wants to show these two fifteen-second sequences to the four players involved, then the same situation played well in the first half. They need these three clips, filed, commented and easy to send. How to present them is covered in a video session with your players.
What Hudl offers
Hudl is a range of products. On its UK page (checked on 9 October 2026), you find in particular a platform for sharing video within a team, Focus cameras that film automatically (Focus page), the Assist service that produces statistics and reports, Wyscout and Sportscode. It is a set built for organisations that work with video and data with a dedicated analyst.
Public prices: in dollars, per year, for American clubs
Hudl publishes its club prices in US dollars, per team and per year, noting that they apply to American programmes.
- Football (“soccer”): Core 500 USD (only in a club package), Plus 1,000 USD, Premier 2,500 USD per team per year, according to the dedicated page.
- Basketball: Bronze 400 USD, Silver 1,000 USD, Gold 1,600 USD per team per year; club-wide package on quote, according to the dedicated page.
- Assist in football: from 700 to 1,600 USD per team per season depending on the option, on top of the subscription, according to its pricing page.
- Focus cameras: no price displayed, the page points to a contact form.
- Terms: according to the club FAQ, the subscription lasts one year, is paid in full at the start, and covers a single sport. A team can activate a 14-day trial.
We found no public price in euros or Swiss francs: the UK page points to the sales team. For a Swiss or French club, the only way to find out the price is to ask for it, and to pay the year in advance.
Why a phone covers these four needs
TactiCam is built for the amateur coach, in Switzerland, and for all team sports. It runs on the staff's phones, iPhone or Android, and opens in the browser, with nothing to install from an app store.
- Film without kit to buy. A phone on a tripod covers a basketball, volleyball or handball hall, or an ice rink from the stands. In Rec Mode, it films the whole match with nobody behind it. On a large pitch, two phones share the width with Panorama (beta), and Multicam (beta) brings together several angles of the same match.
- Find the actions. With Recall Mode, the coach taps after the action they are interested in, from the bench with their own phone as a remote, and TactiCam keeps the seconds that came before. No whole match to rewatch: the clips are already in the Video Room.
- Show them to the players. Slow motion down to a quarter of the speed, frame by frame, arrows, zones and text drawn on the video, comment anchored to the exact moment. Each player has a free account for life to see their clips on their phone.
- A clear price, in your own currency. The Team subscription is listed at 19 Swiss francs or 20 euros incl. VAT per month, or 190 francs (200 euros) incl. VAT per year with two months free, on tacticam.app as of 9 October 2026. The Club plan gets cheaper per team as the club adds more.
On the data side, the coach records statistics from the clips (goals, passes, shots, depending on the sport), and TactiCam adds them up per player and per match on an exportable Team stats page. The videos are hosted in Switzerland, and the app speaks French, German, Italian, English and Spanish. The place of statistics in amateur sport is discussed in do you need statistics in amateur sport.
The method for the coach alone on the bench is in filming a match on your own, and the placement of the phone in filming the whole pitch with a phone.
The comparison, need by need
- Currency: public prices in US dollars at Hudl, Swiss francs or euros at TactiCam.
- Payment: the full year at the start according to Hudl's club FAQ, monthly or yearly at TactiCam.
- Kit: Focus cameras on quote, or the team's phones.
- Sports: at TactiCam, the same tool for all the club's teams, in football, basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, unihockey, rugby, water polo and other sports.
- Trial: 14 days on both sides; at TactiCam, with no bank card.
Organising video across the whole club
An amateur club often has eight or ten teams, from juniors to seniors, each with its own coach. With TactiCam, each team has its own space, folders and players, and the Club plan covers several teams at a tiered rate. Practical answers on who films and who sees what are in organising video in a club. For youth teams, the parents' written agreement comes before the first match filmed.
The simplest way is to try it on a real match: the coach trial lasts 14 days, with no bank card, and starts when the team is created. Players have a free account for life. If the team does not continue, it switches to read-only and keeps all its clips available to view.
